Motivation and Need
While the neighborhood church is the primary institution that has endured over time, most congregations are not equipped or ready to face the challenges of the 21st century. In my 28 years of serving as a minister of the gospel and pastor, workshop facilitator, lecturer, administrator and manager, I am very well aware of the needs many churches have, particularly congregations with less than 500 members. Today, many church leaders recognize that their obligation to the community extends beyond Sunday sermons. Part of my goal has always been to en courage churches (including the church where I currently serve as Pastor) and their leaders to think beyond a weekly, Sunday morning fellowship. However, the churches must have the proper tools, training and organization in place to fulfill that goal. By utilizing the already existing resources of churches, other faith groups, community action agencies, hospitals, businesses, and other proactive service providers, healing can begin in individuals, families and communities.
On average, I visit at least 50 churches per year, mainly in the Southeast region of the United States, whether its in the form of preaching at revivals, conducting workshops, or regular preaching engagements. Upon assessing the need, I have found that there are very few affordable opportunities available for these churches, pastors and laity to acquire the additional tools and training needed to move beyond the traditional methods of doing ministry. There is a gap between churches desiring to change and to serve the present age and connecting with the proper resources to meet the growth challenges. Part of the goal for JSM is to fill in that gap. We will offer quality services, training opportunities, and materials that will assist our target population in receiving the instruction needed to accomplish the task of serving the present age. JSM’s products, services and programs will be accessible, affordable, beneficial and faith-based related.
